$7.5 Million Settlement Secured by ABC Law Centers Birth Injury Attorneys
This case involved a baby who was not tolerating labor, and wasn’t getting enough oxygen, but the doctor and nurses didn’t take any steps to get the baby more oxygen or deliver the baby.
This case involved a mom with a normal pregnancy. She came to the hospital in labor and was put on a monitor. As her labor progressed, and she had more contractions, the baby started showing signs that he was not tolerating labor. His heart rate was dropping with contractions. When mom got to the pushing stage of labor, the baby was doing even worse, but the doctor thought he was doing better. By the time the doctor decided that a c-section was needed, the baby had not been getting enough oxygen for about four hours. He was diagnosed with HIE and had total body cooling.
If the doctor and nurses had read the fetal heart tracing accurately, they would have delivered the baby hours earlier and he would not have severe HIE and cerebral palsy. He has extensive brain damage and cannot walk or talk and has had many seizures on a daily basis.
